Piya Chatterjee is a historical anthropologist and an antiracist feminist. She is Chair of Feminist, Gender and Sexualities Studies at Scripps College in the Claremont Consortium in Claremont, CA. She was on the faculty of Women’s Studies at the University of California-Riverside for 18 years. She is particularly interested in interrogating the boundaries between scholarship and activism, social justice and pedagogy. Her first book, A Time for Tea: Women, Labor and Post/Colonial Politics on an Indian Plantation was published by Duke University Press in 2001 and Zubaan/Kali for Women Press, New Delhi, in 2003. It received the John Hope Franklin Book Award from the eponymously named center at Duke University. She has co-edited (with Manali Desai and Parama Roy) States of Trauma: Gender and Violence in South Asia (Zubaan, New Delhi, 2010) and (with Sunaina Maira) the edited volume from the University of Minnesota Press, The Imperial University: Academic Repression and Scholarly Dissent. She has published on pedagogy, labor issues and rural women’s grassroots organizing in journals as varied as Frontiers, Pedagogy, Signs, the Journal of Historical Sociology and the Bulletin of Concerned Asian Scholars. She is also series editor of Decolonizing Feminisms, published by the University of Washington Press.

She's With Me is the brain child of three feminists who got tired of emailing each other every time they caught wind of a womanist event, so they created a separate space to house their feminist calendar. The benefits would be twofold: fewer emails cluttering up their inboxes, and more people learning about Seattle's growing feminist community. She's With Me aims to be a feminist hub, where all the goings on of different organizations are collected in one place. Our plans for the site include reviews/write-ups of events, interviews with local feminist activists, news updates, and essays, poetry, and art by feminists. The Fourth Wave of Feminism is here, and She's With Me will be the feminist scrap book documenting our herstory as it unfolds.
