Local Black author Helen Collier presents the second book in her trilogy “The Two Worlds of Ms. Anna.” This magical, powerful book is an odyssey of a Black woman’s struggle to find happiness, independence and self-worth in a complex world defined by race. Ms. Anna is trapped between the supernatural world and the harsh realities of her own world she must confront. Collier discusses race and its affect on many love relationships between Black and white people in the U.S. Through the life and death struggles Ms. Anna faces when she returns to her family and community, the reader is reminded of the tragedies domestic violence causes in the lives of children. Collier’s writing invites the reader to examine racism from a different perspective especially when it involves the lives of women. After the reading, there will be time for open discussion.

To buy an advance copy of the book, stop by New Freeway Hall.

About sheswithmeseattle

She's With Me is the brain child of three feminists who got tired of emailing each other every time they caught wind of a womanist event, so they created a separate space to house their feminist calendar. The benefits would be twofold: fewer emails cluttering up their inboxes, and more people learning about Seattle's growing feminist community. She's With Me aims to be a feminist hub, where all the goings on of different organizations are collected in one place. Our plans for the site include reviews/write-ups of events, interviews with local feminist activists, news updates, and essays, poetry, and art by feminists. The Fourth Wave of Feminism is here, and She's With Me will be the feminist scrap book documenting our herstory as it unfolds.
