Freedom of expression combined with the vast scale of the internet can be a beautiful thing, spawning artistry, social awareness, collaboration, humor, and even revolutions. But there is a flip side to what the ACLU calls “the most diverse, participatory, and amplified communications medium humans have ever had.” Two years ago, Seattle-based writer Lindy West took on—and defeated!—a particularly nasty internet troll. In doing so, she became a “catalyst for a national conversation in a world where not all stories are created equal and not everybody is treated with equal respect.”
In this first Seattle event for her new memoir Shrill, West will touch on topics ranging from #ShoutYourAbortion to being a fat woman, and more. This event is for anyone interested in being able to voice their own opinions in the age of the internet.
