Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court heard the biggest abortion access case in decades, Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt. The case centers on a Texas TRAP (Targeted Regulation of Abortion Providers) law. TRAP laws are medically unnecessary regulations that are shuttering clinics across the country, pushing safe abortion out of reach.

Faced with increased costs of compliance and the alarming fear of violence from protesters, the stakes for the women and men on the frontlines couldn’t be any higher. As the battle heads to the U.S. Supreme Court, TRAPPED follows the struggles of the clinic workers and lawyers fighting to keep abortion safe and legal for millions of women, many of them poor and uninsured.

Amelia Bonow of Shout Your Abortion will introduce the film. Following the screening, a panel of local organizations on the front lines of abortion access will discuss the impact of this Supreme Court case in Washington, current threats to abortion access in our state, and what you can do about it. We’ll also get an update on emerging research on self-induced abortion.

Panel organizations:
The CAIR Project
Full Spectrum Doulas
NARAL Pro-Choice Washington
Planned Parenthood Votes Northwest and Hawaii
University of Washington, Division of Family Planning

About sheswithmeseattle

She's With Me is the brain child of three feminists who got tired of emailing each other every time they caught wind of a womanist event, so they created a separate space to house their feminist calendar. The benefits would be twofold: fewer emails cluttering up their inboxes, and more people learning about Seattle's growing feminist community. She's With Me aims to be a feminist hub, where all the goings on of different organizations are collected in one place. Our plans for the site include reviews/write-ups of events, interviews with local feminist activists, news updates, and essays, poetry, and art by feminists. The Fourth Wave of Feminism is here, and She's With Me will be the feminist scrap book documenting our herstory as it unfolds.
