A Feminist Survival Guide to Seattle
Every year, anti-abortion activists hold a 40-day campaign harassing and intimidating women trying to access abortion care. They call it the “40 Days for Life” campaign, and do it during Lent – February 10 to March 20 this year.
In response, The CAIR Project, Full Spectrum Doulas, and NARAL Pro-Choice Washington are launching 40 Days for Abortion Support. From now until March 20, help them support low-income people who have already spent their last dollars paying for abortion care.
There are two ways you can help before March 20:
1. Help create Care Kits by donating one or more of the following items (see drop-off locations below):
•Prepaid debit cards for prescription medications, groceries, gas, etc. loaded with small amounts of money (i.e., $25)
•Comfy blankets, shawls, or sweaters
•Disposable pads (heavy flow)
•Socks/slippers (all sizes!)
•Comfy PJs (all sizes! L, XL, XXL, XXXL are especially helpful for recently pregnant women)
•Small notebooks and pens
•Anti-nausea remedies (candied ginger, peppermint and ginger tea, OTC medicine)
•Snacks – comfort foods, packaged soups, dried fruit, chocolate, etc.
•Ginger ale, sports drinks, Emergen-C, or other beverages to help with nausea
•Packet of plant seeds and candles for acts of remembrance
•Cards of affirmation
•Reproductive justice mini posters
•Tote bags (to store it all!)
2. Volunteer to provide practical support with the Abortion Access Network
Volunteers for the Abortion Access Network provide homestays, transportation, and emotional support. If you think you might be a good fit for providing this support or would like to learn more, follow the link above to fill out the volunteer application.
