She's With Me

A Feminist Survival Guide to Seattle

No! The Rape Documentary screening

When: Thursday, January 21, 5-7:30PM
Where: Capitol Hill Branch Library, 425 Harvard Ave E
Cost: FREE

Seattle Black Feminists will be screening NO! The Rape Documentary at the Capitol Hill Library. NO! is by Black feminist lesbian and rape survivor, Aishah Simmons, and it highlights sexual violence against Black women and the inexcusable silence around this issue. The film features testimonials from Black women rape survivors, and from violence prevention advocates, theologians, sociologists, historians, anthropologists, and other leading scholars and human rights activists to provide an interdisciplinary context with which to examine sexual violence in African-American communities. They also explore how rape is used as a weapon of homophobia.

The 60-minute film will be followed by a discussion.

About sheswithmeseattle

She's With Me is the brain child of three feminists who got tired of emailing each other every time they caught wind of a womanist event, so they created a separate space to house their feminist calendar. The benefits would be twofold: fewer emails cluttering up their inboxes, and more people learning about Seattle's growing feminist community. She's With Me aims to be a feminist hub, where all the goings on of different organizations are collected in one place. Our plans for the site include reviews/write-ups of events, interviews with local feminist activists, news updates, and essays, poetry, and art by feminists. The Fourth Wave of Feminism is here, and She's With Me will be the feminist scrap book documenting our herstory as it unfolds.
