She's With Me

A Feminist Survival Guide to Seattle

Seattle Black Feminists Discussion: Black LGBT vs. “Queer”

When: Thursday, October 29; 5-7pm
Where: North Beacon Hill, private residence. Contact SBF or Feminist Connection: feministconnection(at)gmail(dot)com for the address.
Cost: byob.

Seattle Black Feminists and Feminist Connection are hosting Part II of ‘Beer and Black LGBT vs Queer,’ a follow up to a previous discussion about the word “Queer” and its usage by or toward Black folks. This will be a conversation about the acceptance, rejection or ambivalence toward the word “queer” as Black people. Being LGBTQ is not a requirement to attend: all Black people are impacted by how Black people are identified, and so all can add something valuable to as well as take away important information from the table.

Bring what you’re drinking and, if you have one, a fold-up camping-type chair.

About sheswithmeseattle

She's With Me is the brain child of three feminists who got tired of emailing each other every time they caught wind of a womanist event, so they created a separate space to house their feminist calendar. The benefits would be twofold: fewer emails cluttering up their inboxes, and more people learning about Seattle's growing feminist community. She's With Me aims to be a feminist hub, where all the goings on of different organizations are collected in one place. Our plans for the site include reviews/write-ups of events, interviews with local feminist activists, news updates, and essays, poetry, and art by feminists. The Fourth Wave of Feminism is here, and She's With Me will be the feminist scrap book documenting our herstory as it unfolds.
