She's With Me

A Feminist Survival Guide to Seattle

An Evening with Stacy Schiff: Salem Witch Trials

When: 7:30PM, Friday, November 6, 2015
Where: Great Hall
Cost: $5; buy tickets here

The Salem witch trials have infiltrated classroom textbooks, popular culture, and American mindsets for the nearly 300 years since they occurred. What really happened in 1692? Was this a case of female “hysteria” or something greater? Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Stacy Schiff (“Cleopatra”) has turned her attention to this pivotal moment in American history–one where women were at the center. The Witches chronicles the year-long panic, reactions by male politicians, and the aftermath of this true American horror story. She’ll give insight into these trials–what fueled the panic, the prosecutions–and possibly, explain what they have to say about modern America.

About sheswithmeseattle

She's With Me is the brain child of three feminists who got tired of emailing each other every time they caught wind of a womanist event, so they created a separate space to house their feminist calendar. The benefits would be twofold: fewer emails cluttering up their inboxes, and more people learning about Seattle's growing feminist community. She's With Me aims to be a feminist hub, where all the goings on of different organizations are collected in one place. Our plans for the site include reviews/write-ups of events, interviews with local feminist activists, news updates, and essays, poetry, and art by feminists. The Fourth Wave of Feminism is here, and She's With Me will be the feminist scrap book documenting our herstory as it unfolds.
