She's With Me

A Feminist Survival Guide to Seattle

Forum on prostitution policy, the sex lobby and male accountability

When: Thursday, April 30at 6:00pm
Where: UW School of Social Work Room 305

The UW 4th Wave Feminists will present a forum on prostitution policy, the sex lobby, and male accountability. Come hear what Swedish social workers, survivors of prostitution, the National Rapporteur on Trafficking, activists, and law enforcement have to say about the Nordic Model.

Easton Branam & Ane Mathieson-
What is the Nordic prostitution policy model?
The sex industry is a lucrative, exploitative global industry that is governed by various legislation strategies from country to county. How does the Nordic Model compare to legalization in the Netherlands?; criminalizationin the United States?; decriminalization in Denmark?

Anjilee Dodge & Myani Gilbert-
What are the financial ethics of legalizing prostitution?
Authors of a paper to be published in the Seattle Journal for Social Justice will examine the debate around prostitution in light of neo-liberal co-optation of the feminist movement and suggest how neo-liberal ideology currently influences discussions of Commercial Sexual Exploitation (CSE).

Tim Smith-Stewart & Peter Qualliotine-
Envisioning the practice of male allyship and creating a male ally network
A brief introduction to male allyship, examining men’s role in ending commercial sexual exploitation and all forms of gender-based violence. Following the presentation, you are invited to participate in a structured dialogue on the creation of a sustained male ally network that supports the Organization for Prostitution Survivors and woman-led movements.

About sheswithmeseattle

She's With Me is the brain child of three feminists who got tired of emailing each other every time they caught wind of a womanist event, so they created a separate space to house their feminist calendar. The benefits would be twofold: fewer emails cluttering up their inboxes, and more people learning about Seattle's growing feminist community. She's With Me aims to be a feminist hub, where all the goings on of different organizations are collected in one place. Our plans for the site include reviews/write-ups of events, interviews with local feminist activists, news updates, and essays, poetry, and art by feminists. The Fourth Wave of Feminism is here, and She's With Me will be the feminist scrap book documenting our herstory as it unfolds.
