She's With Me

A Feminist Survival Guide to Seattle

Roundtable: Cyber Civil Rights & “Revenge Porn”

When: Tuesday, March 3 at 4PM
Where: K&L Gates, 925 Fourth Avenue
Cost: Free; RSVP is required

Nonconsensual pornography, which you’ve likely heard referred to as “revenge porn,” is a rapidly growing problem that has devastating impacts on its victims. It occurs when sexually explicit images of a person are disclosed without her consent. The victims are overwhelmingly women and girls, which is why Legal Voice has been advocating in the Washington Legislature to enact strong, effective legislation to respond to this problem.

As the legislative debate in Olympia continues, K&L Gates and the University of Washington’s Tech Policy Lab will co-host this timely roundtable. The discussion will focus on cyber civil rights and effective remedies for nonconsensual pornography. Speakers will include David Ward of Legal Voice, David Bateman of K&L Gates, Charles Harwood of Northwest Region Federal Trade Commission, and Colette Vogele of Without My Consent.

There will be a reception following the panel discussion.

About sheswithmeseattle

She's With Me is the brain child of three feminists who got tired of emailing each other every time they caught wind of a womanist event, so they created a separate space to house their feminist calendar. The benefits would be twofold: fewer emails cluttering up their inboxes, and more people learning about Seattle's growing feminist community. She's With Me aims to be a feminist hub, where all the goings on of different organizations are collected in one place. Our plans for the site include reviews/write-ups of events, interviews with local feminist activists, news updates, and essays, poetry, and art by feminists. The Fourth Wave of Feminism is here, and She's With Me will be the feminist scrap book documenting our herstory as it unfolds.
