Protest SCOTUS Hobby Lobby Ruling

When: Thursday, July 3rd at 6PM
Where: Westlake Park, 4th & Pine
Event website:

Take to the streets this Thursday in response to recent Supreme Court rulings that uphold the “freedoms” of religious fanatics and misogynists while reinforcing patriarchy and DEHUMANIZING women!

Hobby Lobby is a chain of about 500 stores run by the Green family in Oklahoma, Christian fundamentalists that refuses to offer birth control in their healthcare plan. Yesterday the Supreme Court ruled 5-4 IN FAVOR of Hobby Lobby, taking the stand that companies have no obligation to offer birth control coverage to their employees.

Just last Thursday the Supreme Court ruled UNANIMOUSLY that certain buffer zone laws that are meant to keep hateful fanatics at a distance from abortion clinics violate their freedom of speech (freedom to harass and shame women). So the buffer zones in Massachusetts are rendered invalid, and similar laws meant to protect women and clinics across the country are imperiled.

Stand together with others who are outraged at these decisions, to expose the patriarchal agenda of religious fundamentalism, raise awareness of what has happened in the last week, and publicly OPPOSE and fight to end this relentless war on women.

About sheswithmeseattle

She's With Me is the brain child of three feminists who got tired of emailing each other every time they caught wind of a womanist event, so they created a separate space to house their feminist calendar. The benefits would be twofold: fewer emails cluttering up their inboxes, and more people learning about Seattle's growing feminist community. She's With Me aims to be a feminist hub, where all the goings on of different organizations are collected in one place. Our plans for the site include reviews/write-ups of events, interviews with local feminist activists, news updates, and essays, poetry, and art by feminists. The Fourth Wave of Feminism is here, and She's With Me will be the feminist scrap book documenting our herstory as it unfolds.
