She's With Me

A Feminist Survival Guide to Seattle

Bloody Coat-Hanger Street Action

When: Saturday, April 12th at noon
Where: Madison Entrance of Swedish Hospital, 1101 Madison Street
Event page: &

April 12th – Bloody Coat-Hanger Street Actions: Assemble at anti-choice institutions (GOP or Dem. offices, anti-abortion churches, Pregnancy Crisis Centers, etc.). People wearing all white will raise coat-hangers dripping in blood, representing the women who die when abortion is unavailable. Others in all black will hold pictures, names and statistics of the women who have died already. Everyone will wear shackles. After one hour of silent protest, people will break the shackles and recite a pledge to resist and call on others to join in mass resistance to defeat this war.

Seattle protesters will be meeting at noon outside of the Madison entrance of Swedish Hospital (which is now governed by “Ethical & Religious Directives” imposed by the Catholic Archdiocese that disallow abortion and birth control services. This is part of a nationwide Catholic takeover of secular hospitals. Check out the ACLU of WA website for more info). Then they will march and assemble for the action at the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle (710 9th Ave).

About sheswithmeseattle

She's With Me is the brain child of three feminists who got tired of emailing each other every time they caught wind of a womanist event, so they created a separate space to house their feminist calendar. The benefits would be twofold: fewer emails cluttering up their inboxes, and more people learning about Seattle's growing feminist community. She's With Me aims to be a feminist hub, where all the goings on of different organizations are collected in one place. Our plans for the site include reviews/write-ups of events, interviews with local feminist activists, news updates, and essays, poetry, and art by feminists. The Fourth Wave of Feminism is here, and She's With Me will be the feminist scrap book documenting our herstory as it unfolds.
