She's With Me

A Feminist Survival Guide to Seattle

EMPOWERING WOMEN ARTISAN MARKET

When: 10 am – 3 pm on Saturday & Sunday, July 20 & 21
Where: Burke Museum, 17th Ave NE & NE 45th St
Cost: Included with museum admission ($10); FREE for Burke members
Event page: http://engage.washington.edu/site/MessageViewer?em_id=113901.0&dlv_id=114321

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to meet artists from across the globe, purchase a wide variety of artisan-made goods, and get insider knowledge on the Empowering Women: Artisan Cooperatives that Transform Communities exhibit. This event is so big it will spill outside the museum’s walls, in true street-market style!

Leaders from six of the cooperatives featured in the Empowering Women exhibit will travel to the Burke from Rwanda, Morocco, Laos, Nepal, India, and Bolivia to demonstrate their skills in basketry, printing, weaving, and more. Their stunning paintings, wall hangings, baskets, clothing, and jewelry will be available for purchase this weekend only.

Also meet leaders of the local organizations featured in the Burke’s Northwest Connections display. Shop items from the display while you talk to individuals about how they partner with artisans across the globe to bring hand-crafted products to market in the Northwest.

About sheswithmeseattle

She's With Me is the brain child of three feminists who got tired of emailing each other every time they caught wind of a womanist event, so they created a separate space to house their feminist calendar. The benefits would be twofold: fewer emails cluttering up their inboxes, and more people learning about Seattle's growing feminist community. She's With Me aims to be a feminist hub, where all the goings on of different organizations are collected in one place. Our plans for the site include reviews/write-ups of events, interviews with local feminist activists, news updates, and essays, poetry, and art by feminists. The Fourth Wave of Feminism is here, and She's With Me will be the feminist scrap book documenting our herstory as it unfolds.
