The Edge of Heaven is a deeply humanistic, richly layered drama with a multi-ethnic lesbian couple at its center. The 122-minute film follows the stories of six people – four Turks and two Germans – as they deal with divisions of generation and nationality. Unexpected events bring together Ayten, a revolutionary fugitive from Turkey, and Lotte, a German student. When Ayten is arrested for entering Germany illegally and sent to prison in Istanbul, Lotte follows to help fight for her lover’s freedom. Winner of the Best Screenplay award at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.
