A Feminist Survival Guide to Seattle

The Struggle for Women’s Rights – A Discussion

Coming up on the end of a year that brought us Todd Akin, new laws attempting to redefine rape, transvaginal ultrasounds and various other affronts against the women’s rights, The South Seattle Socialist Alternative is hosting a discussion to talk about what is currently needed in the struggle for women’s rights and what we can envision for the future. Not all grim news, the discussion will also highlight recent wins for women like national Slutwalks, a reemergence of the women’s movement in mainstream media and a record number of women elected into office (although not all are pro-choice). This will be a Socialist’s approach to women’s rights tonight, Tuesday November 20th at Seattle University. For advance reading materials on the discussion, visit http://www.socialistalternative.org/news/article16.php?id=1434

Time: 7:30 p.m. Tuesday

Location: Seattle University, Administration building room 325

About sheswithmeseattle

She's With Me is the brain child of three feminists who got tired of emailing each other every time they caught wind of a womanist event, so they created a separate space to house their feminist calendar. The benefits would be twofold: fewer emails cluttering up their inboxes, and more people learning about Seattle's growing feminist community. She's With Me aims to be a feminist hub, where all the goings on of different organizations are collected in one place. Our plans for the site include reviews/write-ups of events, interviews with local feminist activists, news updates, and essays, poetry, and art by feminists. The Fourth Wave of Feminism is here, and She's With Me will be the feminist scrap book documenting our herstory as it unfolds.
